The death took place on Tuesday last [27 September 1927] at Pahiatua of Mr Henry Archibald Nevins, one of the best-known residents of the Tinui and Makuri districts.
The late Mr Nevins was born in Ireland, being the son of Hugh Nevin Nevins, of Roanmore, County Waterford. Educated at the Diocesan School, Waterford, he came to New Zealand in 1877, and was employed at Brancepeth, near Masterton, felling the bush and surveying the place.
In 1877 he took charge of Annedale, near Tinui, and was manager of that station for 35 years.
In 1922 he returned to his own place, Ngawaewae, Makuri, which he had bought in 1888, when that district was opened up, and which he had felled and cultivated.
Mr Nevins was a member of the Farmers' Union from its inception, and held the post of Dominion treasurer for two years. He was a director of the Rimu Bank Co-operative Dairy Company from 1925-26.

In 1901 he married Muriel Fancourt, a daughter of the late Ven. Archdeacon Fancourt, and is survived by his wife and two sons--Thomas Nevins, of the Engineering School of Canterbury College, and Gerald Nevins, of Wanganui Collegiate School.
