Annual Meeting

April 2, 1904

Minutes of Parishioners Annual Meeting held 2th April 1904, in the Church of the Good Shepherd.


Present

Revd J.H. Sykes, (chairman) Messrs H. A. Nevins, D. H. Speedy, R. & W. Langdon, J. A. Perry, F. W. Groves, Brading & Hancock.

Minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed.

It was reported that ₤1-19-0 had been paid for insuring St Andrews Church for ₤300-0-0.

Propd Mr Nevins Secd. Mr R. Langdon that kneelers and clamps be got for the Church seats price not to exceed ₤9-0-0.  (Carried)

Propd. Mr. Sykes Secd. Mr. Nevins that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded the Churchwardens and Mr D.H. Speedy for past services.  (Carried)

Mr Sykes appointed Mr Brading Vicars Churchwarden for the ensuing year.

Propd. Mr Speedy Secd Mr R. Langdon that A.T. Hancock be elected Peoples Churchwarden for the ensuing year. (Carred)

The following were duly elected to Vestry.

Messrs Nevins, R. E. Maunsell, J. & F. W. Groves, McHutcheon, R. L. Langdon, Tatham, D. H. Speedy, & J. A. Perry & N. Morrison.

Propd. Mr. Perry Secd. Mr. Nevins that ₤10-0-0 be refunded from the Vestry fund to the Garden fete fund.  (Carried)

Propd. by Mr. Sykes Secd. A. T. Hancock that this Vestry desires to place on record its sense of the great loss sustained by the Church of N.Z. by the untimely death of Mr J. C. Andrew Jnr. [1] who was a subscriber to the building fund of this Church and was present at the opening service and to convey to our esteemed friend Revd. J. C. Andrew M.A. its great sympathy in his sore bereavement and earnestly prays that Divine strength and comfort may sustain him at this time.

[1] John Chapman Andrew, the son of the Rev. J.C. Andrew, was born in 1866. He married Jessie Isabella Morrison in 1894 and was the father of Isobel Jane, John Morrison, James, Jessie Margaret and Philip. In April 1904 he died of exposure - after becoming lost - in a hunting expedition in the Southern Wairarapa.
