Vestry Meeting

22 November 1922

Minutes of Vestry Meeting held at the Vicarage, Tinui, on Saturday, November 4th, 1922


Present

The Vicar and Messrs W.G. Groves, H.G. Groves, H. Bennett, T. Cripps, A. T. Hancock, G. Moore.


Apologies

Apologies for absence were received from Mr H. B. Maunsell & the Secretary, Mr A. A. Schofield.


Finance

A statement of the Finances prepared by the Secretary before his illness was read. It showed a credit balance of ₤45, but arrears of stipend unpaid amounting to ₤108. The prospects for 31.3.1923 was a deficit of ₤80 provided all of the ₤141.6.6. of outstanding subscriptions were to come in.

A general discussion of the position followed & it was decided

(I) To make a personal canvass for new subscribers

(ii) To find out from those in arrears whether they would or would not be able to pay.

Those present took names of residents of their districts.


Telephone

Mr Moore said that he had the paper for signatures and would pass it on as soon as complete.


Gift of Property

The Vicar announced that Mr H. B. Maunsell was prepared to hand over to the vestry the section lying between the Vicarage property & the County Office. Members thought this would add considerably to the value & appearance of the present section & Mr Moore moved & Mr T Cripps seconded

“that the generous offer made by Mr H. B. Maunsell be accepted & that Mr Maunsell be thanked very heartily for his gift.”  (Carried)


Sympathy in illness

The Vicar moved & Mr Groves seconded

“that this meeting extends to the Secretary [Mr A.A. Schofield] its sympathy in his illness & wishes him a speedy recovery.”  (Carried)

Note: Arthur Albert Schofield was a son of Joseph and Laura Schofield and was born in 1889. He married Doris Hancock in the Church of the Good Shepherd, Tinui, in 1916. They were the parents of Una, Beryl, Mildred, Owen, Dorothy and Arthur Schofield.
